Robin Clevett talks diet and keeping fit

Posted: Monday, July 24th, 2023

Host of The Carpentry Show, Robin Clevett was joined by chippie Marc Firkins and Horsham-based joiner Dan Brown to discuss how they keep fit and eat right.

Marc plays badminton once a week for two hours and goes to the gym twice weekly, which helps him stay fit for the physical side of the job. "I also walk as often as I possibly can."

Eating right is  "70% of the job", when it comes to staying in shape. "When you eat the correct food, exercising is a bonus," said Marc.

As part of his fitness regime, Marc drinks five litres of water a day. "When I wake up in the morning I drink a pint of water. After my morning routine, I have another glass. Then throughout my day, I drink up the rest."

For Dan diet is "massively" important as he realised how sugar was impacting his life. During the lockdown, he gained a few extra pounds, which pushed him to make a change in his life by eating right and exercising.

Further, in the show, Robin reveals how he stays fit. "I used to gym and was also a mad cyclist. I've always been active and have been on the tools since the age of 16."

Now, he says that he's quite particular about his diet. "The reason I do that is because heart disease is a big issue in our family. My dad died of heart disease and had several heart attacks."

He keeps fit by eating healthy, drinking plenty of water, and limiting his alcohol intake. "It's about balance. It's making sure you educate yourself about eating correctly and avoiding unhealthy meals."

Robin's also found that fasting every now and then is quite helpful for the body.
