On this week's Carpentry Show, Robin Clevett is joined by fellow chippie James Lowrey, who is struggling to expand his business. James set up his business in September 2023 and business has been "steady". He's currently busy with a house of multiple occupant’ projects, media jobs, and kitchens. But currently he is struggling with other aspects of the business. "I struggle with managing my schedule efficiently. I had a few crazy weeks in October. A job got delayed and then ate into the time of my next other jobs," he adds. James also notes that he doesn't have a van and uses his family car. "I want to save enough for a van and stabilise my business," he shares. Robin explains that there are two ways to get a van. "Save up and buy a van or lease." He also shares advice on paperwork, taxation, and managing time. "Don't let people owe you too much. Try to get paid by the end of the week. Never let people owe you more than you can prepare to lose," Robin suggests. Listen to the podcast here.
