A plumber is offering free boiler care to elderly Scots amid fears OAPs will "freeze to death" without the winter fuel payment this year, Daily Record reported. Jon Jeromson, contract manager for Edinburgh-based Haggart Plumbers, is offering free gas boiler services and safety checks to 150 people over 80 in his area. The 60-year-old announced the move after MPs voted to make the Winter Fuel Payment means-tested. "People will be relying on that £300 and won't get it. If you divide that £300 into every day of the year, it's nothing. "There are people out there who will be crying out and waiting for that cash to come in, whether for putting their cooker on, heating on, or electric blanket. It's sad and bleak that this money will be taken away from them,” he says. Jon adds: "That's why I want to give back to my community and help 150 people over 80 in the Edinburgh and East Lothian areas by providing free gas boiler services and safety checks. "I hope that doing this will ease any financial pressures they may face this winter. Nobody should have to go cold in this day and age."
