Werner Co is urging tradespeople working outside to slap on the sunscreen as part of its promotion for Skin Cancer Awareness Month. According to research from Imperial College London’s Faculty of Medicine, construction workers account for 44% deaths from melanoma skin cancer. Justin White, managing director at Werner Co said: “It is important to recognise that those that work outdoors should be conscious of the dangers of sun damage beyond the month of May and must use precautions all year round.” --- Police stopped a lorry load of stolen plant machinery last week before it was driven onto a ferry to leave the UK. The National Construction and Agriculture Theft Team, recovered eight stolen machines, including six which were taken from an auction site in Yorkshire. The Construction Plant-hire Association (CPA), which played an important role in the recovery operation, claims there has been a 200% increase in the theft of plant and agricultural kit in the 18 months. On average 110 pieces of plant machinery are stolen every month, claimed the CPA. --- Dulux Decorating Centres has declared a ‘can-amnesty’ in May to raise awareness to its free can recycling service. The chain of stores wants to triple the amount of paint cans it recycles by 2025.
