A Labour MP has thrown his support behind the idea of a builders' licensing scheme. Speaking on a Federation of Master Builders’ (FMB) podcast, Richard Quigley, MP for the Isle of Wight West claimed that a scheme would protect consumers and support legitimate tradespeople. Quigley said that “no decent builder” should be against the idea of a licensing scheme. In his view “good builders want to be distinguished from the rogues. They want customers to have confidence in their work and qualifications". The FMB claims that over £14 billion have been lost to rogue traders in the last five years. --- The sales of second-hand electric vans have doubled in the last two years — that’s according to a study by MarketCheck The report indicated that the price of a used e-van has dropped by 28%. The average price in June for a second-hand electric van was £17,500. Alastair Campbell of MarketCheck UK said used e-vans were now “far more accessible” for businesses and sole traders. --- Builders in North Yorkshire have found an old newspaper dating back to 1869. The builders were working on a shop extension in Malton when they made the discovery.
