The government is investing £39 billion to build 300,000 social homes over the next ten years. The Social and Affordable Homes Programme will almost double the previous five-year scheme, which targeted 130,000 homes by 2026. Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rayner said that 60% of homes would be for social rent. She claimed the programme was “the biggest boost to social and affordable housing in a generation.” --- A builder in Nottinghamshire is fighting a £500 fixed penalty notice (FPN) for fly-tipping. Frank Brown was working in a property when an officer from Waste Investigations Support and Enforcement (WISE) arrived and decided that two bags of sand he had left outside the boundary of property had been dumped. He told Brown to pay a fine or face prosecution. Brown, who is appealing the fine, accused WISE of using bullying tactics. Solicitor Michael Orlik told the BBC that the penalty had been incorrectly issued as the building materials had not been discarded and therefore were not waste. --- Prince William is stepping in to help a local football club in Cornwall replace the pothole ridden road leading up its ground. Mousehole AFC had been trying to find a way to resurface the road for “at least” 48 years.
