
The move by the government to relax immigration rules for foreign construction workers has been welcomed by the Federation of Master Builders. At last week’s budget, bricklayers, roofers, carpenters and plasters were among skilled workers added to the Shortage Occupation List. Brian Berry, chief executive for FMB said: “adding trades such as bricklayers and carpenters to the Shortage Occupation List delivers on calls from the industry.” According to FMB data, up to 60% of jobs are stalled due to labour shortages. --- UK pump manufacturers are up in arms about unfair competition from Chinese vendors selling non-compliant equipment. The British Pump Manufacturers Association (BPMA) estimates more than 100,000 pumps that don’t meet either UK or European specs are sold each year in the country. Lee Tebbatt president with the trade body said: “we’re seeing pumps that are illegal in terms of their energy efficiency are being disguised with fake CE markings.” --- A plasterer from Gloucestershire is laying claim to the mantle of the UK’s most tattooed man.
