AUDIO NEWS: Dropout rates on construction apprenticeship near 50% and roofer saves kitten

Posted: Tuesday, September 3rd, 2024

The dropout rate for construction apprenticeships is nearing 50% - that’s according to data from the British Association of Construction Heads (BACH).

The report published last month, also highlighted that the number of apprenticeship starts in construction were lower now, than five years ago.

Graham Hasting Evans called the huge dropout rate a “wasted opportunity”.

And said solutions “have been slow in coming forward, with so many different parties involved in apprenticeship delivery”.

Nearly 60% of UK van drivers admit to breaking mobile phone driving laws – that’s according to a study from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles.

The research claims 57% of van drivers regularly check their phones while driving, despite a law that bans the use of all handheld devices while behind the wheel.

Using a mobile phone while driving can earn a driver a £200 fine and six penalty points on their license.

A recent survey from the Department of Transport found that van drivers are more than twice as likely to use their mobile phone while driving, compared to other road users.

And finally, a roofer in Milton Keynes travelled to Buckingham to rescue a kitten from a high pitch roof.

After seeing a message from the distressed owners on Facebook, George Gregory, of GG & Sons, jumped in his van, drove over and saved the 11-month-old moggy.
