The Clean Heat Market Mechanism is set to be scrapped according to some reports published this week.

The scheme which only came into effect last month was supposed to encourage boiler manufacturers to shift their focus towards heat pumps.

However, manufacturers just put up prices on boilers to cover any government fines they may face in the future.

The Times reported that Energy Secretary Claire Coutinho who previously had accused boiler manufacturers of price gouging, is now having discussions with officials about scrapping the tax.

Nearly 90% of construction workers view mental health support as important when choosing a job, claims new research.

The survey by Randstad found that mental health support ranked fourth on a list of ‘most important factors’ when choosing a job.

Only pay, work/life balance and job security were deemed more important.

Si Harris, senior operations director, Randstad said: “Construction workers are taking the provision of mental health at work seriously.”

A fifth of tradespeople suffer from hearing problems due to work – that’s according to a survey from Ironmongery Direct.

As well as those experiencing hearing problems, a similar number said they expected to have hearing issues in the future.

Nearly half of 18-to-35-year-olds reported that they were already having trouble hearing.

Despite the high number of people reporting problems, just 17% said they always wear ear defenders when they should.
