The Government has released up-to-date details on the uptake of the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, according to PHPI Online. The scheme, which opened in May 2022, is designed to encourage the use of low-carbon heating technologies such as Air-Source Heat Pumps (ASHPs). A grant of £7,500 is available for ASHP and Ground-Source Heat Pump installations. Responding to the latest statistics, Ian Rippin, CEO at MCS, said: “The latest government figures show that Boiler Upgrade Scheme applications are up 53% during the first three months of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. “This highlights the growing number of people turning to low-carbon heating sources for their homes.” The MCS installation data shows that March 2024 was the second-best month in the Scheme’s history for certified heat pump installations, with more than 4,500 installed in March alone. From January to March 2024, certified heat pump installations increased by 37% compared to 2023, a record-breaking year for the technology. He added: “The Boiler Upgrade Scheme is vital to making home-grown energy more affordable and accessible. “These latest figures reflect the growing number of consumers in England and Wales who are choosing MCS-certified contractors to install their renewable systems, ensuring they can take advantage of government grants to switch to renewable energy.”
