TOP 10 ALTERNATIVE TOOL USES

Top 10 alternative tool uses

Tools aren’t cheap so we thought our listeners would be pretty chuffed to hear that many everyday tools have more than one use. See, we here at Fix Radio are always trying to get you more bang for your buck!

  1. Square Nosed Shovel

Normally, you would use this for digging. However, did you know that this gardener’s favourite can also be used to remove roofing shingles? All you need to do is use the tip of the shovel to pop off the shingles. Job done.

  1. Copper wire

Sturdy, strong, flexible – copper wire is a ruddy useful thingy-me-bob to have. But, take a moment to think outside the box and consider the possibilities of copper wire. You could also use it as ties for your extension cords – so don’t throw away left over pieces of copper wire, put them in your man drawer. Trust us – you’ll thank us later.

  1. Electric Screwdriver

Hmm we remain unconvinced about this one, but we have a fair few listeners who claim they use a screwdriver instead of a corkscrew, apparently it really does work?

  1. Needle-Nose Pliers

A slightly more sensible suggestion – use needle nose pliers to hold a small nail – far safer than risking your finger. We give this one a big thumbs up (see what we did there?)

  1. Wooden Planks

Listen we get it. Building can be tiring, hot and exhausting and sometimes you need a rest. And what better way to let off some steam than by using wooden planks and boards to create a giant game of Jenga? We expect this one to sweep the nation pretty soon.

  1. Snow Shovel

Now cleaning ain’t fun and it ain’t glamorous, but as any builder can tell you a real man knows how to clean up a site. But, say…you forgot your pinny, gloves and hoover you could always fall back on a snow shovel. Given its ginormous surface area it can take quite a lot of debris and given that the handle is pretty big you should be able to protect your back. Win. Win.

  1. Diagonal Cutting Pliers

These bad boys can be used to remove electrical staples – easy peasy.

  1. Flat Bar

As we well know adjusting hinges on a door can be a bit of a pain, but worry not. Instead use your feet to operate the flat bar – allowing you to raise and lower the door as you work. Job done.

  1. Wrench Hooks

How annoying is it when tools go missing? And you stand there shaking your head and scratching your chin trying to work out what you did with them. Worry not - we have the solution for you! Bend wrenches into hooks and you have the perfect spot to hang your other tools on.

  1. Toolbox Nightstand

You may have to get this one past the wife, but we think it’s a cracking way to reuse your old toolbox. A toolbox is a great thing – with lots of space for all sorts of odd bits and bobs  Try attaching it to the base of an old swivel chair and you have a manly nightstand. Boom.
