Louiza Chrysanthou, also known as Sun Trowler on Instagram, and Emily Lay bare it all with Izzy the Bricky, from the challenges of being a female in bricklaying, which they chose this career, key highlights, and making a name for themselves. Louiza was introduced to the trade at 21 as she took the university route but realised it wasn't for her. "Bricklaying for me was a restart and fresh opportunity." Last year, Lou competed in the Super Trowel competition. "I came up against massive competitors but was instantly made to feel comfortable." This year, she aims to be in the final. Twenty-six-year-old Emily is also a newbie to the trade but has been exposed to bricklaying at a young age, as her neighbour was a bricklayer. She was initially reluctant to take up the trade because it's a "male-dominated field". It's been two years since she took up bricklaying and she has been well accepted into the trade by her peers.
