AUDIO NEWS: NICEIC wants tradies to start retrofitting and CMA may investigate boiler prices

Posted: Monday, April 22nd, 2024

NICEIC is calling for all trades to come together to combat climate change and accelerate retrofitting work on the UK’s ageing housing stock.

According to the Energy Saving Trust, the UK’s 30 million homes account for more than 21% of the country’s carbon emissions.

To hit Net Zero climate targets, the UK must improve the energy performance rating on 19 million homes by 2035.

NICEIC technical director, Paul Collins said the growing demand for low-carbon and renewable technologies is a huge opportunity for tradespeople to “lead the way”.

The Energy Security Secretary, Clair Coutinho has asked The Competition & Markets Authority to review boiler pricing.

The government watchdog was asked by Coutinho in an open letter to review the existing pricing and market for domestic boiler systems.

CMA chief executive, Sara Cardell, said that any potential investigation would need to account for the role of government in shaping conduct and outcomes in the green heating sector.
