AUDIO NEWS: Tradies could be fined £300 for overloading vans and heat pumps fitted in just 5% of new builds

Posted: Wednesday, May 1st, 2024

Tradespeople could face fines of up to £300 and points on their licence for overloading their vans, claim experts from Lease Van.

Van owners also need to ensure that tools and materials are stored securely and loads evenly spread to keep the vehicle steady while driving.

Tim Alcock, motoring expert at Leave Van said: “Driving an overloaded vehicle is a serious offence and the restrictions are something that van owners need to be aware of.”

Air source heat pumps have been installed in less than 5% of new builds since 2019 – that’s according to research from Confused.com.

Ground source heat pumps have been fitted in less than 1% of new builds during the same period.

On a brighter note, the rate of implementation for air source heat pumps did accelerate last year.

King’s Lynn and West Norfolk led the country with heat pump installs, where over half of new homes built between 2018 and 2023 had heat pumps.

And finally, a Norwich builder has become the fastest man to run a mile in a swimming pool.

It took 37-year-old Adam Lopez a little over 35 minutes to run the 64 lengths – a time that needs to be ratified by the Guinness World Records.

Lopez was raising money to buy specialist medical equipment for a five-year-old girl who was diagnosed with a severe muscular disorder.
