Where Is The Traitors’ Castle?

The hit BBC show returns, but where is it filmed?

The Celebrity Traitors returns to BBC One on the 1st of October, 2026, just in time for the Halloween season. The cast is absolutely stacked, but they have massive shoes to fill after the success of Series 1. With Alan Carr triumphantly claiming the prize as a Traitor, 21 new faces will be fighting across the round table this time. 

Among them are comedians James Acaster, Joe Lycett, Romesh Ranganathan and Rob Beckett, alongside music icons Leigh-Anne Pinnock and James Blunt, actors Bella Ramsey, Richard E. Grant and Michael Sheen and even documentary-maker Ross Kemp. 

Where Is The Celebrity Traitors Filmed? 

Just like the classic series of The Traitors, The Celebrity Traitors is shot at Ardross Castle in the Scottish Highlands. Located just north of Inverness, the 19th-century building isn’t too far from the village of Alness in Ross-shire and is set within 100 acres of parkland on the banks of the River Alness.

The celebrities themselves will not be staying at the castle overnight, but they will be completing challenges in and around the grounds of the castle and holding discussions within the fortress itself. Unfortunately, the castle is privately owned, which means it is not open to the public, allowing filming of the show to be kept secretive. 

Building Ardross Castle 

While Ardross Castle might have been built in the 19th century, its layout also incorporates an 18th-century hunting lodge, built by the 1st Duke of Sutherland who originally purchased the massive estate. The construction of the castle included over 400 skilled workers, who helped to lay out the ambitious plans.

The castle is equipped with 30 rooms, which cover around 22,000 square feet. In the late 1890s, renovations took place to update the castle when it was sold to Captain Charles William Dyson Perrins. Some of those changes included the addition of electricity and repairs to those damages that were caused by age. 

In 1983, the castle was purchased by the McTaggart family, and after a huge restoration project which took place over multiple decades, it finally reached the pristine state needed to film The Traitors. With 10 distinct series already shot on location and more to come, it seems Ardross Castle’s legacy will be defined by backstabbing and secrecy.
