Tradespeople had tools stolen every 20 minutes in the UK, three quarters of installers are too busy to retrain, and Erling Haaland helps landscapers secure a day off
Tradespeople across the UK had tools stolen every 20 minutes in 2025 — that’s according to research from Aviva.
In total, over 26,000 tool theft incidents were reported to 30 police forces.
However, the true figure is likely to be higher, as 15 forces didn’t provide data.
A Home Office spokesperson said it has invested £18.5 million in police funding and is currently exploring the use of artificial intelligence to identify stolen goods being sold online.

Nearly a quarter of installers said they are too busy to retrain for heat pumps, claims research from Glow-worm.
Respondents blamed the amount of admin for preventing them from upskilling, with nearly three quarters spending two hours every day on paperwork.
Despite this, over 40% said they were actively looking for training opportunities.

Staff at a landscaping firm could be off go-karting after Erling Haaland responded to an online plea.
Shane Hassall posted a video asking his colleague Wade Taylor for the day off to go go-karting.
He was told he could go only if the video got more than 100,000 likes, and he got a comment from the Norwegian footballer.
The video generated over 16 million views in just two days, and Haaland added a comment last Thursday.
