Two thirds of homeowners pause home improvement work, half of house planning authorities fail to discharge planning conditions on time, and petition to save DIY SOS gains momentum
Two thirds of homeowners are pausing home renovation work over mounting cost concerns, according to research from Evolution Money.
The poll found that 36% had stopped bathroom improvement projects, and a similar number had delayed kitchen work.
Of the 2,000 consumers surveyed, 61% said they still preferred to upgrade their property in the next five years, rather than move.
However, the report also highlighted a gap between homeowners’ intentions and their ability to fund projects.
Even though half said they would use their savings to pay for major renovations, only a third had a dedicated home improvement savings fund.

Half of planning authorities are failing to discharge planning conditions within the statutory eight week timeframe, claims a report from the Home Builders Federation.
The research also suggested that the percentage of applications completed on time had dropped by nearly 4% in the last year.

An online petition to keep DIY SOS on the air has gained over 40,000 signatures in a week.
David Claydon, the plasterer who started the petition, said the TV show reminded “all of us of the potential that we have to make a difference in our communities”.
The BBC announced plans to ‘rest’ DIY SOS as part of a cost-cutting drive.
