Over 15 local young people volunteer to renovate the centre, earning qualifications in painting and decorating
The Screwfix Foundation and Volunteer It Yourself (VIY) have united again to support two vital community centres in Belfast - New Lodge Youth Centre and Ardoyne Youth Club.
Over the first week of the project, Screwfix volunteers from the area got stuck in to help transform the spaces, used by nearly 300 people daily, into a more welcoming environment.
The project was supported by 16 local young people who took the opportunity to get involved and gain hands-on experience in the trade, contributing to a community initiative close to their hearts.
As a result of their hard work, the young volunteers also earned their Entry Level 3 City & Guilds in painting and decorating, setting them on a pathway to a potential career in the trade.
With funding from the Screwfix Foundation and the dedication of volunteers, VIY has helped maintain the centre, ensuring it remains a safe, inclusive place where young people can grow, develop life skills, and connect with their community.
The Screwfix Foundation and VIY will return in January to complete the second part of the project, which will see volunteers work towards a carpentry qualification by renovating an outdoor space at New Lodge.
This marks the fifth collaboration between The Screwfix Foundation and VIY, and VIY's first project delivered in Northern Ireland.
