Everything We Know So Far About The UK’s Universal Theme Park

The ground-breaking attraction will change the UK tourism industry forever.

In 2023, and again in 2025, the UK Government held talks with Universal about potentially building a new theme park. To date, Universal has created 8 theme parks operating across 4 countries. Each has been celebrated for its attention to detail and high-octane coasters. 

However, it wasn’t until June 3rd, 2026, that Universal officially announced it would open a park in England. Scheduled to be completed by 2031, we already know a great deal about the attraction and what it has to offer. 

Where Is The New Universal Theme Park Being Built? 

The big news is that the Universal theme park will be built in Bedfordshire, in England. The massive complex is said to be around 476 acres in size. With additional infrastructure also being built to cater to the park, including new public transport links and hotels, it is estimated that approximately 80 acres of this space will be dedicated to the park itself. 

However, there are already plans in place for future expansions. In fact, early designs suggest that up to 700 acres could be eventually used to support the growing tourism hotspot, if the initial gambit proves to be a success. 

What Themed Lands Will Feature In The Park? 

Right now, there are no official announcements about which themed lands will be included as part of the Universal line-up. The brand has revealed that there will be several familiar properties as part of the park’s map, but speculation has been rife about the potential options. 

Looking across Universal’s other parks, there are a couple of frontrunners, including the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Jurassic World. However, The Lord of the Rings, Paddington, Back to the Future, Minions and James Bond have all been touted as potential options in the press. 

What Impact Will It Have On The Local Economy? 

This massive construction project will have a huge effect on the local economy. There will be over 20,000 jobs created while the park is in the construction phase, with an additional 8,000 roles available once the site is completed. 

It is also thought that Universal will boost the economy by £50 billion, with much of that going back into surrounding areas. With transport upgrades like the expansion of Wixams railway station, new slip roads from the A421 and other road improvements, it seems Bedfordshire is about to get the investment of a lifetime.
