Did You Know Bake Off Doesn't Always Film In A Tent?

The Great British Bake Off returns, but the tent isn’t the best backdrop for the show.

The Great British Bake Off has returned to our screens, with Nigella Lawson joining the team. Paul Hollywood, Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond are back in the tent once more, helping to guide a new batch of bakers.

While the tent might come to mind straight away when we think about GBBO, it’s not actually the only place where Bake Off has been hosted. There may be an even better backdrop for this cooking competition!

Where Is Bake Off Hosted?

Everyone knows the Bake Off tent, but where is the structure actually built? Well, throughout filming, The Great British Bake Off is contested in the grounds of Welford Park in Berkshire, England. In the past, other locations such as Valentines Mansion, Redbridge, and Down Hall, Essex, have also been used.

Welford Park is best known for its historic estate, a family home that has existed for almost 400 years. Built by master mason John Jackson, the land had previously been used by Henry VIII as a deer-hunting lodge. It might serve as a beautiful backdrop, but tradies will certainly respect this alternative host location.

The Bake Off Shed!

In Australia, the Bake Off is hosted in a very different structure. Because instead of a tent, they use a shed! The Bake Off shed has been a staple of the show since the early days, with 11 years' worth of series filmed in the classic garden structure. There’s also a smaller greenhouse where the judges discuss the events of the day, adding to the unique premise.

The exact location of the shed is unknown to protect the filming of the show, but the custom shed is sure to play host to many seasons in the future. The permanent build is a great way to differentiate the Australian Bake Off from The Great British Bake Off, but would you like to see our iteration make this shift?
