This Harry Potter day, it’s time to take those wizard hats off for the construction crews that made it all possible.
Back in 2012, it was officially designated that the 2nd of May would be Harry Potter Day. A chance to celebrate the franchise and everything it has brought to British culture and industry.
The Harry Potter movies have become synonymous with British film, incorporating veteran actors, launching new stars and providing employment across a vast array of sectors. With HBO’s take on the franchise set to debut in 2026, it would seem that those same industries are once again flourishing thanks to the Wizarding World.
The Original Films

The original Harry Potter films were shot in Leavesden at the Warner Bros. studio lot. The props, sets and designs are now all a part of the Warner Bros. Studio Tour, which showcases all the immense work that went into creating these spectacular, detailed and intricate movies.
Hundreds, if not thousands, of construction workers contributed to the development of the Harry Potter films over the 10-year production period, with 588 individual sets constructed from scratch. Led by Production Designer Stuart Craig, without those talented builders and craftspeople, the quality of the films just wouldn’t be the same.
From miniature models depicting Hogwarts itself, to contributing to the restoration and adaptation of historic sites like Stowe House, the Harry Potter series’ diverse needs ensured that specialists from across the country were drawn in, to help with this magical experience.
Returning To The Wizarding World

What the Harry Potter films did, above all else, was provide opportunity and employment. It offered a chance for hard-working construction experts to make a mark on British cinema. The new HBO Harry Potter television series offers that same chance of seeing your name in the credits.
With over £1 billion going towards expanding the Warner Bros. London studios, as permanent sets are built to last the duration of the series, it would seem that plenty of investment is going back into British construction.
On top of this, specialist projects are being built to also cater to the needs of the filming crew. From a school for all the younger actors and multiple sound stages, to a new car park and road, the sheer scale of this project is unbelievable and is expected to grow the economy by $3 billion.
The Future Of The Franchise

With only the first season of the show filmed thus far, there are plenty more years of opportunities set to hit the British construction sector thanks to Harry Potter’s return. The franchise as a whole is going to continue expanding though, with new potential projects on the horizon.
Whether it’s the chance to tour Harry Potter & The Cursed Child, the West End production that has run for almost a decade, or the construction of the new Universal theme park, which may include a Wizarding World of Harry Potter, there are lots of ways in which the series may open up new roles.
Fans of the franchise or those who believe they may be well-placed to contribute to the construction of this fantastical world should monitor upcoming call-outs as the franchise continues to grow.
