SELECT launches new solar and battery course with The Energy Training Academy

The course is tailored to provide contractors with the necessary expertise to install, commission, troubleshoot and upkeep PV systems up to industry standards

SELECT, the trade association for the electrical contracting industry in Scotland, has partnered with The Energy Training Academy to deliver solar PV and battery storage installation training at its centre near Edinburgh.

Delivered over five days in Dalkeith, this new course is tailored to provide contractors with the necessary expertise to install, commission, troubleshoot and upkeep PV systems up to industry standards, adhering to regulations and best practices.

Offering a blend of hands-on experiences and theoretical learning, delegates will emerge with an understanding of solar PV systems, a mastery of battery storage solutions, and the confidence to apply this knowledge practically.

Carolynn Edgeworth, centre manager at The Energy Training Academy, said: “Our mission is to empower electricians with the skills and confidence to thrive in the fast-growing renewables sector.  

“Our partnership with SELECT will extend these opportunities further, ensuring learners benefit from expert guidance and industry recognition. We’re proud to provide hands-on, industry-led courses that prepare our learners for long-term success.”

This course is intended for qualified and practising electricians. Before registering, sparkies must provide evidence that they hold the following:

Level 3 Award in the Requirements for Electrical Installation BS 7671 – as amended (18th Edition) Qualification (Equivalent SELECT Course Requirements for EI – course 218)

They must also have ONE of the following:

  • Current ECS Gold Card issued by the SJIB or JIB – Installation Electrician, Approved Electrician, Maintenance Electrician or Domestic Electrician
  • SVQ in Electrical Installation at SCQF Level 7
  • Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Installing Electrotechnical Systems and Equipment (Buildings, Structures and the Environment)
  • Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Electrotechnical Services (Electrical Maintenance)
  • Level 3 Electrotechnical Qualification
  • Level 3 NVQ in Electrotechnical Services Experienced Worker
  • Level 3 Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Qualification
  • Level 3 Electrotechnical in Dwellings Experienced Worker Qualification
  • Building Services Engineering (Level 3) Electrotechnical Installation Qualification.
