A quarter of the respondents to the 2025 Bitesize Careers survey said an apprenticeship was their preferred route into a career
Doctor, engineer, and teacher remain the top three most popular choices for school goers, according to a survey by the BBC.
A career in the building trade was ranked ninth in the most sought-after jobs teens hope to have when they grow older.
The Bitesize Careers survey 2025, which surveyed more than 4,000 13-16-year-olds from across the UK, also revealed that the NHS was the most preferred organisation for which they would want to work.
Almost half of the teens (47%) said they'd prefer to go to university after finishing school, with a quarter (25%) noting they'd choose an apprenticeship.
Eighty-five per cent of teens surveyed were confident they could get their desired job once they joined the workforce.
When asked what matters most to teenagers in a career, most noted that they want to feel proud of their jobs. Happiness and money ranked second and third, respectively.
