AUDIO NEWS: Thieves travel from Worcester to Wales to raid vans and mental health survey launched

Two thieves travel to Wales and steal £13,000 worth of tools, FMB partners with CLC and BMF to launch mental health survey and tradespeople warned about 'clocked vehicles'

Two men from Worcestershire have been convicted of travelling to Wales to ransack tradespeople’s vans and steal tools.

Aston Amos and co-defendant Robbie Bate broke into vans from Builth Wells and Brecon to Newcastle Emlyn during a series of nighttime raids taking £13,000 worth of power tools.

Police were able to identify a black Audi A4 from CCTV footage and use automatic number plate recognition cameras to track its journey and connect it with the thieves.

Amos’ movements were also tracked by a GPS tracking tag he was wearing at the time, due to another court proceeding.

The Federation of Master Builders has joined forces with the Construction Leadership Council (CLC) and the Builders Merchants Federation (BFM) to develop a ‘Mental Health Joint Code of Practice.

The initial steps include conducting a consultation survey to identify the primary causes of poor mental health and what the sector can do to tackle them.

Brian Berry, chief executive of the FMS said, “that everyone working in the construction deserves a working environment that supports their wellbeing.”

The survey is open to anyone working in UK construction.

Tradespeople are being cautioned to keep an eye out for ‘clocked vehicles’ when investing in a work van.

According to a report from CarVertical, vans are particularly at risk from mileage fraud because they “typically cover far more miles than conventional cars.”
