HRMC launches fraud crackdown in Manchester and Liverpool, landscapers help with the latest Band of Builders project, and The Globe Theatre plans £10m re-thatching job
HMRC has warned site workers about rising levels of payslip fraud.
Liverpool and Manchester are being targeted in a crackdown on firms in the construction supply chain that deduct National Insurance and CIS contributions, but fail to pass the money to HMRC.
Workers often do not realise the fraud is happening, as payslips still show the deductions as if they had been paid.
Construction professionals are being encouraged to compare their payslips with their personal tax account on Gov.UK and report any anomalies.

A team of volunteer landscapers from Band of Builders has transformed the front of a property for a former bricklayer.
Jonathan Coleman had been struggling with the uneven and slippery surface outside his home since he suffered a stroke days before his wedding in 2018.

Shakespeare’s Globe theatre is due to undergo a £10 million re-thatching job.
Although thatching won’t start for another two years, stockpiling of homegrown water reeds began in 2022.
The roof will also incorporate the latest fire safety systems.
Prior to the Globe’s opening in 1997, thatched buildings had been banned in the city centre since the Great Fire of London.
