Carpenters are the most likely to offer a cup of tea, van drivers warned to brush up on the Highway Code and school students get hands on bricklaying experience
Carpenters are the trade most likely to offer someone a cup of tea while at work — that’s according to a new poll on workplace etiquette by Essential Workwear.
The survey of 2,000 tradespeople also found that everybody was vocal about poor work habits, with plumbers and bricklayers becoming most frustrated by low quality work.
While over 40% of respondents thought that joking with colleagues was acceptable behaviour, taking unplanned breaks and scrolling on social media was consistently viewed as inappropriate.

Van drivers have been warned to brush up on their Highway Code as more cameras are installed across the UK.
James Luckhurst, head of road safety at GEM said a better understanding around restricted lanes and junctions will prevent avoidable penalties.
Bus lanes where restrictions only apply at certain times of the day, appear to catch a lot of drivers out.
Data from RAC suggests 1 million bus lane penalty notices were issued in England’s largest cities last year.

Students at Kelso and Peebles High Schools have been getting ‘hands on’ bricklaying experience.
The programme organised by DYW Borders and local builder Cruden gave students a taste of the trades before they make key subject choices.
The sessions also included a discussion about different routes into the industry.
The broader programme also included sessions on plumbing, joinery and electrical installations.
