Nearly 60% of tradespeople say that their work has been disrupted by the summer heat — that’s according to Rhino Trade Insurance.
High temperatures have slowed work, forced early finishes, and, in a fifth of cases, led to heat-related illness.
Many trades are adapting their day to avoid the heat, with over three quarters starting earlier and 7% working evenings.
More than a quarter of the 1,000 sole traders and small businesses polled also reported postponing work due to expected on-the-job temperatures.

Andrew Kelly ran the Buckeye Ultra 200 Mile Road Race in just 50 hours and 10 minutes, breaking the previous fastest time by nearly 4 hours.
The 29-year-old now plans to stay in the US and compete until the end of the year. He’ll then return to the UK to earn money to fund his future races.
