Tradespeople working for Edinburgh Council are up in arms over plans to track their work vans.
Plumbers, heating engineers and electricians have all threatened to go on strike over a new van tracking system that would alert line managers to potential “non-work use” of vehicles.
Trade union Unite plans to ballot its members, claiming the plan is in breach of the council’s own policy and “could lead to disciplinary triggers” if a commute takes more than an hour.
Unite previously clashed with Edinburgh Council in 2023 over the rollout of telematics software across it’s 1,200 fleet of vans, cars and HGVs.
