Report highlights the lack of clarity around the cost of using directory websites, BIFIS engages Year 6 students with pilot programme, and MacBlair launches mental health campaign
Tradespeople are paying up to £500 a month for shared leads on the big trade directory websites, claims new research.
The report from SEO agency Local Ladder found that trades were signing up to 12-month contracts with little idea of the full cost until they’d started using the platform.
The UK Trade Lead Cost Tracker found one tradesperson who had recorded fees of £540 and £940 for leads on two large projects.
Subscribers on another platform complained that leads were regularly shared between 10-and-20 different businesses.

The British Institute of Fitted Interiors Specialists (BIFIS) has launched a pilot programme with Greater Essex Careers Hub to introduce Year 6 students to the trade.
The initiative is part of a six year strategy to boost vocational learning and awareness of career paths in the fitted interiors industry.
A spokesperson for BIFIS said that if the industry is serious about building its future workforce, it had to help young people understand the opportunities available.

MacBlair, a builder’s merchant based in Northern Ireland, has launched a mental health campaign, designed to get tradespeople talking.
As part of the ‘How’s the Head’ initiative, it also published research showing that 48% of tradies spend at least four hours a day working alone.
