Select is backing calls for homeowners to have their wiring checked by a qualified electrician before buying and using plug-in solar panels.
The Scottish trade body echoed industry-wide concerns about potential safety issues posed by photovoltaic products now available from DIY stores and high street retailers.
A spokesperson warned that plug-in solar wasn’t like “buying a toaster”.
The panels interact directly with a property’s fixed wiring and protective devices, so it needs to be checked by a qualified electrician.
