Robert Jenrick calls car boot sales festivals of criminality, Heat and Building Strategy fails to deliver cheaper heat pumps and avocado bathrooms threaten a come back
Robert Jenrick, the shadow secretary of state for justice has called for local councils and trading standards offices to step up and play a decisive role in the fight against tool theft.
The Tory MP for Newark, speaking this week at Installer Festival in London said local councils needed to take action and stop the sale of illegal goods at car boot sales.
Jenrick described car boot sales as “festivals of criminality… where everything is probably stolen.”
Over the last year, the Met Police, working with trading standards and local councils have raided several car boot sales recovering over half a million pounds worth of stolen tools.

The Heat and Building Strategy, developed while Boris Johnson was PM, has failed to deliver price reductions on heat pumps.
The plan predicted that heat pump costs would fall by 25% as more people installed them.
But according to Energy and Utilities Alliance (EAU) the cost of heat pumps has gone up over the last four years.

Almost half of Brits are unhappy about the return of avocado-coloured bathrooms.
A poll of 2,000 consumers by Nuielux found that the 1970s-era bathroom suites were “the most hated bathroom design choice”.
That hasn’t stopped some brands re-introducing avocado shaded suites, which are thought to be popular with gen z shoppers.
