Plumbers led the lineup in Screwfix Top Tradesperson semi-finals, a painter and decorator has his livelihood stolen, and a homeowner discovers note hidden by an electrician in 1955
Plumbers are dominating the semi-final line-up in this year’s Screwfix Top Tradesperson competition.
After reviewing over 900 entries, the judges have whittled the field down to 23 candidates, who will fight it out for a place in the final at Screwfix Live in September.
The eventual winner will claim a £20,000 prize bundle, made up of tools, training and technology.
Electricians and joiners are also well represented among the semi-finalists.

Friends and family are rallying around a painter and decorator whose van and all his tools were stolen, while he worked just metres away.
Marc Jelley, who has worked in the trade for over 25 years, said that the thieves hadn’t just taken a van, but everything he “needed to earn a living”.
Friends and family have since rallied around, with someone lending him a van and another setting up a fundraising page to replace his lost equipment.

A man renovating his home has discovered a note from a tradesman, left there in 1955.
In the letter, electrician Gordon Hopper outlined his rates of pay, the weather, his experiences of serving in the army and the political climate of the day.
The homeowner, Brendon Swallow, is now keen to find out more about the tradesmen.
