Tradespeople expect skills crisis will increase costs, electrician protests parking ticket and Josh Padley secures European super featherweight title
More than half of builders think the skills crisis is getting worse — that’s according to the Trade Trends Report from Travis Perkins
In the report nearly a fifth of tradespeople said they expected labour shortages to increase costs and 18% voiced concerns that they’d struggle to take on extra work.
The research also claimed that 19% of builders intended to explore apprenticeships or using subcontractors to solve the skills crisis.
Currently over a third of tradespeople are over 50 and many expect to retire in the next 10 years. Just a fifth of the construction workforce is under 25 years old.

A tradesman who was issued a ticket by a private firm for parking on the public highway says he won’t pay the £100 fine.
Andy Dickens had parked his van outside a client’s house in Lymington when he got the ticket.
After confirming he was parked lawfully, Dickens is warning other drivers about the situation.

Josh Padley, a site electrician until just last year, has secured the European super featherweight title with a knockout victory.
The Doncaster Destroyer rose to fame after stepping off site and into the ring to fight world champion Shakur Stevenson on just four days’ notice.
After his latest victory, the 30-year-old is expected to re-sign new terms with Matchroom.
