Just 4% of self employed tradespeople are saving for their pension, Reform put up a plumber to stand against Andy Burnham, and a tradesman has £20k and a steam engine stolen
Just 4% of self employed tradespeople are saving for retirement, claims the Pension Commission.
The report from the government agency found even lower levels of savings among young self employed workers.
Overall, at least 15 million Britons are not prepared for retirement and face a cliff edge when they retire, due to a chronic shortfall in savings.
The commission warned that a radical shake-up of the pension system is required.

Reform is putting up a plumber to stand against Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham in the forthcoming Makerfield by-election.
Robert Kenyon originally stood for the seat in the 2024 general election, where he came second to Labour’s Josh Simons, with 34% of the vote.
Simons decided to step down earlier this month to provide Burnham with a chance to return to Parliament.

A tradesman has lost over £20,000 worth of tools and a miniature steam engine when his two vans were stolen outside his home.
Ben Tregear had just showcased the restored steam engine, worth £35,000, at the Stotfold Watermill’s annual Fair and Country Show.
A GoFundMe page has been set up to replace Ben’s tools.
