Mates In Mind has rolled out digital training that aims to raise mental health awareness and reduce suicide among self-employed tradespeople and sole traders.
The training has been designed specifically to reach the ‘hard-to-reach’ group, who are often most at risk of mental ill-health.
Research indicates that two thirds of construction workers regularly experience stress.
And nearly a third have had thoughts of suicide.
Intense workloads, financial problems, poor work/life balance, and pressure on material supply often combine to significantly increase stress and anxiety among self-employed construction workers.

Respondents to the UK Construction Purchasing Managers’ Index reported subdued market conditions and a reduction in new projects, particularly house-building starts.
Purchasing activity also fell sharply last month.
