Local councils get extra funding to hire more building control officers, four tradespeople head to Shanghai for the World Skills competition and an electrician takes on Luke Littler
Local councils will receive £55 million to overhaul Building Control departments and improve housing delivery.
The funding from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government will pay for the recruitment and training of new building inspectors and upskilling existing staff.
The government also pledged to reform local authority charges for building control work, to make the services more financially sustainable and transparent.

Four former Skill Build national finalists are heading to Shanghai next week to compete in the World Skills Competition.
The tradespeople will line up alongside 1,500 other young people from over 80 countries to compete across a range of technical and vocational disciplines.
After reaching the Skill Build final, Joseph Shingler, Stanley Mackintoch, Shelby Fitzakerly and Jamie Matthews have all undergone an intensive training programme with Pearson ahead of the main competition.

An electrician will try and beat Luke Littler at darts and win half a million pounds next month.
Bailey from Somerset will get his chance to beat the world number 1 over a single leg of 501 on a new Netflix show, hosted by Gary Linker and Richard Osman.
Over the season, Littler will take on 20 of the UK’s best amateur darts players.
