Housebuilders have welcomed the return of Help to Buy-style loans, as a bid to kickstart the ‘new build’ housing market.
The Your First Home scheme, unveiled by the government at the start of the week, will allow first time buyers to purchase a new build home with a deposit of just 2.5%.
Chief executive of the Home Builders Federation, Neil Jefferson, said the programme had to work for those struggling to buy and for builders of all sizes.

Only a quarter of the life-critical fire safety defects in social housing have been fixed since 2017.
The Regulator of Social Housing (RSH) said it was stepping up its efforts to address fire defects in the remaining homes over the next five years.
A spokesperson said tenants’ homes should be safe, secure and free from fire safety risks.

A retired painter and decorator is set to make a quarter of a million pounds at auction from his Pokémon card collection.
The anonymous collector said he had no idea it could be valuable until he saw a story about an auction house paying more than £6,000 for a single card.
When he checked, he found that some of the cards were worth between £20,000 and 40,000 each.
