FMB urges government to move from rhetoric to action, tradesman left with nothing after thieves take van and former Emmerdale star becomes electrician
This week’s spring budget statement was a missed opportunity for the construction industry, warned the Federation of Master Builders (FMB).
The trade body had wanted to see “more practical” steps to unlock growth, boost housebuilding and kickstart retrofitting work.
Clear policy detail, commitment to funding and support for small builders are required to create real jobs and solve the skills crisis.
The FMB said the government needed to move from rhetoric to action, and put small builders at the heart of its plans.

A landscaper and tradesmen has been left with “absolutely nothing” after his van, with all his tools, was stolen.
Jamie Gilhooley had only just replaced some of the tools after his 12-year-old transit was broken into just four weeks ago.
Initially, Gilhooley had planned to quit the industry after the latest incident, but support from his friends in the trades has encouraged him to return.

Since leaving the show, Hall has become a qualified spark and completed work for his former co-stars.
