Copper theft increases in response to global shortage, Monumental raises millions for robot bricklayer, and Dr Who fan builds replica Tardis in back garden
Theft of copper has increased across the UK, claims a report from Metals4U.
An analysis of UK police data found that overall incidents of metal theft had dropped by nearly a third between 2023 and 2025.
However, copper theft has jumped each year and now accounts for 20% of all cases.
Over half of metal theft incidents between 2023 and 2025 occurred in Greater London.
A spokesperson warned that the thieves were taking advantage of the high demand for copper, caused by chronic global shortages.

Monumental, a European maker of robot bricklayers, has raised $32 million from venture capitalists.
The money will be used to expand the engineering team, scale its fleet across Europe, and increase its presence in the UK.
The firm already has 150 robots laying bricks on building sites across Europe and the UK.

A Dr Who fan has built a replica Tardis in his back garden.
Brendan Sheppard, who was a former BBC director, worked for two years with a small team to recreate the console room from the 1983 series at his home in Lincolnshire.
The replica room is now open to visitors.
