Contractors warned about dodgy CSCS card checks, Charlie Mullins urges the youth to get a trade and avoid the AI bloodbath and tool marking events organised in March
Contractors are being warned about ‘hundreds’ of dodgy websites designed to cheat the CSCS skills card checking system.
The scam was detected by PPAC Solutions after it found workers on major sites who were failing its stringent checks, but were still being approved on other jobs.
An investigation discovered that fake cards were being linked to phoney verification websites.
The scam allowed untrained workers with fake cards or qualifications on site.
A CSCS spokesperson encouraged contractors to use the Smart Check system to verify all cards on site.

Charlie Mullins, the UK’s richest plumber, is urging young people to get a trade and avoid the AI ‘bloodbath’.
Mullins, who sold his firm Pimlico Plumbers for over £100 million, believes that young people are being “misled that they’ll get the job because they’ve got a degree.”
His current firm, WeFix has seen a surge of interest from young people wanting to sign up for plumbing apprenticeships.

Tradespeople in the Thames Valley area are being urged to attend free tool marking sessions starting in March.
Tool marking kits will be given away on a first come, first served basis, along with several other theft prevention items.
Matthew Barber, police & crime commission for Thames Valley, said that four in 10 tradespeople had experienced tool theft and that was why “free marking sessions are so important.”
