AUDIO NEWS: CISRS announces plans to leave CSCS and the cost of diesel hits new high

CISRS says the decision will allow it to support scaffolders working outside construction, motor fuel prices jump 23% in August, and 2027 Installer Awards open for entries

The scaffolding industry has been thrown into turmoil by the CISRS sudden decision to leave the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS).

As of June 2027, the industry training body will no longer issue cards with the CSCS logo.

The CISRS said the decision would allow it to continue to support scaffolders working in other sectors such as utilities, marine, aviation and petrochemicals.

However, the Scaffolding Training Alliance (STA) called for formal consultation and firm guidance on card recognition and site access.

Diesel prices have risen to their highest level since July 2022, the RAC warned.

Overall motor fuel prices jumped 23% in August compared with last year.

Unfortunately, with oil now trading consistently above $100 a barrel due to the ongoing US-Iran war, petrol and diesel prices are likely to keep rising.

High fuel costs are also behind a spike in inflation, which accelerated to 3.1% earlier this month.

Entries for next year’s Installer Awards are now open.

Consisting of the Heating Installer Awards and the Plumbing Awards, the programme invites entrants to compete at a regional level before qualifying for the national title.

This year, a joint apprentice of the year and a HVAC specialist category were added to the event.
