MJL Construction told to pay outstanding CITB levy, tradespeople in London figure out it's cheaper to get fined than pay for parking and Charlie Manby earns PDC Tour Card
A Surry-based contractor has been ordered to pay nearly £22,000 by an employment tribunal, after losing its appeal against paying the Construction Industry Training Board’s levy.
MJL Construction argued against paying the fees due to the “lack of face-to-face apprenticeship courses,”, while also questioning the standard of training and a perceived lack of support.
MJL director, Leslie Blay told the employment tribunal he “wanted to complain about the system” and believed it was failing.
Firms with employees who spend more than half of their time on construction activities are required to pay into the levy.

When faced with parking fees of £100 a day, tradespeople in London are increasingly opting to take a ticket and pay the fine because it’s cheaper.
Tony Connor, an electrician from Essex, told the Sun he was about to pay for parking on Grey’s Inn Road, when he realised it was cheaper to get a parking ticket and pay the next day.
However, some London boroughs operate permission to park schemes that allow tradespeople to park all day for just over £30 quid.
