Band of Builders partners with merchants for mental health support, diesel prices likely to hit record high, and electrician wins the Carnegie Hero Medal
Band of Builders has launched an ambitious initiative to extend mental health support to customers of builders’ merchants.
Every Merchant Matters aims to create a nationwide network of merchant branches where tradespeople can find someone available to listen, chat and signpost them to further mental health support.
The scheme, developed with Support Yard CIC and the Builders Merchants Federation, is recruiting merchants across the country, both big and small.
A spokesperson said that merchants could make conversations around mental health part of everyday life in the industry.

Diesel prices are likely to hit an all-time high as early as next week, warned the RAC.
The price per litre has shot up by nearly 12 pence in September alone.
Average petrol prices have also increased, topping 172 pence a litre.

And finally, an electrician in Canada has won North America’s highest civilian honour for heroism after rescuing an injured hang glider on Mount Prevost.
Matthew Clark was awarded the Carnegie Hero Medal for his part in saving Stephen Parson, who had crashed into a tree, in a vertical gully.
The young tradesman free climbed the gully wall, freed Parson from the tree, treated his wounds and waited for rescue teams to arrive.
