AUDIO NEWS: 59% of installers get trained in heat pumps and hydrogen-powered digger starts on site

59% of heating engineers are developing their heat pump skills, Ford Turneo Custom comes bottom on Van Repair Index, expensive van to repair, and hydrogen-powered excavator arrives on site

Nearly 60% of heating engineers are developing heat pump skills — that’s according to a survey from Baxi.

Despite an eagerness to learn about heat pumps, 60% of installers complained that a lack of consumer demand was the biggest hurdle to rolling out the low carbon technology.

The poll of 400 installers also highlighted a 18% drop in the number of heating engineers citing a lack of training as a barrier to fitting heat pumps.

The survey showed that some heating engineers were becoming increasingly sceptical of both heat pumps and Net Zero more broadly.

The Ford Tourneo and the VW Caravelle have been labelled as the most expensive vans to repair, in a report by Tempcover.

The Van Repair Index combined data on reliability, average repair bills and claim rates for major components to compare how costs vary between different models.

Compact vans dominated the top half of the list, with the Nissan NV200 taking first place due to its high reliability score and low annual repair bill.

The world’s first hydrogen powered digger has started work on the Lower Thames Crossing.

The JCB machine, supplied by Flannery Plant Hire, is being used by Skanska on ground investigation work in Gravesend, Kent.

The Lower Thames Crossing project wants to slash its carbon footprint by 70% through the use of new methods, materials and technology.
