Small firms have inadequate insurance cover for use of social media, NFB and CITB partner on construction skills plan and VIY redecorates Suffolk Mind centre
Nearly half of small businesses don’t have insurance to cover their use of social media.
Research from Markel Direct found that although many firms were aware of the responsibilities that came with posting content online, one in five did not obtain client permission before sharing images of work on social media.
28% also admitted they didn’t know what to do if a client raised a legal concern about content they had published online.
A spokesperson from Markel Direct said businesses didn’t “realise that the same rules around consent, copyright and confidentiality apply online, as they do offline.”

The National Federation of Builders (NFB), in partnership with the CITB, has unveiled a plan to boost heritage construction skills.
The initiative will work with employers, industry bodies and training providers to identify the skills challenges in the historic built environment and how to tackle them.
The plan will also develop clearer career pathways into heritage construction and improve specialist training opportunities.

The Suffolk Mind centre has been redecorated by 21 volunteers getting their first taste of working in the trades.
The project organised by Volunteer It Yourself (VIY) and supported by ToolStation also restored the courtyard garden and expanded the number of available parking spaces.
