AUDIO NEWS: 25% of CSCS card holders under 30, and £18.6bn needed to fix potholes

One in four CSCS cardholders are under 30, FMB supports management platform for neurodivergent tradespeople and £18.6bn needed to fix local road network

One in four construction workers are now under 30, claims fresh data from the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS).

It is among the first tangible evidence that the industry is attracting younger talent after years of warnings about its aging workforce.

The figures indicate an 8% rise in 20-to-29-year-old workers on site over the last four years.

CSCS smart card data also illuminated a sharp rise in the number of skilled or advanced workers with a card.

The Federation of Master Builders has thrown its support behind a construction management platform designed for neurodiverse professionals working in the trade.

One in four construction workers identify as having a neurodiverse condition, including ADHD or dyslexia.

Nearly 60% of tradespeople who experience mental ill health are also neurodivergent.

The beta version of the new management platform from Tradeways Technologies launched this week.

Local councils fixed 1.9 million potholes last year, but many roads have since deteriorated due to the notably wet winter.

Only half of the local road network is reported to be in ‘good condition’.
