The beautiful thing about the sport of darts is that all of the players at the elite level of the sport could genuinely be a bloke you’ve worked with on site for 30 years - and there’s a plasterer that’s fast becoming one the most exciting players to watch. Perhaps the most remarkable thing about Welsh lad Jonny Clayton is that despite him taking home over £300,000 in prize money this year on the circuit, he is still currently employed and working as a plasterer for Carmarthenshire County Council. Alternating between trowels and arrows, The Ferret - as he’s more commonly called - recently became the first player in history to finish fourth in the group stage and go on to win the Premier League crown last month- pocketing a tidy cheque for £250,000 in the process! What can I say — ABSOLUTELY BUZZING 🏴🏴🏴🏴🥳🥳🥳- get in there 🏆2021 PREMIER LEAGUE CHAMPION - did I really say that 🙈🥳🥳- BUZZING pic.twitter.com/PtrAfQAIMy The 46-tear-old had to beat the best on the way to that purse, with a memorable victory in the semi-final over dart icon Micael Van Gerwen. The plasterer has been involved in the sport for a number of the years now, moving on from making his first televised event back in 2017, he took out the 2018 Austrian open and won the 2020 PDC World Cup Of Darts for Wales alongside countrymen, Gerwyn Price. So you might be thinking to yourself - with all this success and incredible prize money, why keep plastering? As reported by Sky Sports, The Ferret said "I've thought long and hard about do I give up to concentrate on darts?"
"I am afraid to take that step and I'm going to leave it as it is at the moment because if darts doesn't go well, I've still got that income coming in.” "It is genuinely how I feel. I've got a young family and I want everything to be spot on before I make that decision. I think I need to win a major before that decision is made." Fair play. Going to savour time at home with family now but just want to thank everyone for their amazing messages, too many to thank personally, the fans at venue & home, friends, family, sponsors @reddragondarts @NolanWindows @MarshallGroup @THEDJSHOP @ModusDarts180 @zwasports 👏👏😘🏴 pic.twitter.com/o09TkKw8tJ (H/T Independent, Sky Sports)
