A new study from Indeed has found there has been a 75% increase of employers offering generous signing-on packages in an attempt to attract skilled workers, as job vacancies in the UK soared past one million for the first time in history. And if you’re a qualified gas engineer…you’re hot property. Not only did the report find that construction wages are growing faster than any other sector - increasing 8.2% between February and August this year - it also found that gas engineers and drivers represented the jobs that have seen the most substantial increase in the use of signing bonuses and incentives - with some employers offering up to £3,000 for simply taking the gig in the industry. As reported by The Mirror, these incentives are being offered on top of rapidly rising wages, showing that high demand for workers in the construction, transport, manufacturing and food industries is leading wage growth in those sectors to far outstrip that in the rest of the UK economy.
