Plumber’s Pipe-Repair Clamp Invention Could Be Set To Make Him Millions

Posted: Thursday, June 24th, 2021

A Scottish plumber’s invention has got the attention of some of the biggest players in the international energy industry as they approach the final phase of testing to see if the product and technology - which is currently only used for domestic purposes - can be applied to large-scale engineering and manufacturing environments.

So what’s the product?

It’s a rapid pipe repair clamp that founder Ross Dickinson has called - The Kibosh.

According to the official website, The Kibosh claims to be the “The world’s fastest, simplest pipe repair clamp that can mend damaged pipes within seconds, therefore minimising any operational down-time until a permanent repair can be made”.

Having sold 100,000’s of the product domestically already, the company has been looking to expand into larger-scale commercial use and companies in the oil, gas, energy and industrial sector like Total, Harbour Energy, CNOOC International and Hydratight have all expressed their interest in using it.

The clamps have just entered the final phase of research and development with field trials taking place in the North Sea over the next 18 months.

Mr Dickinson’s repair-clamp has received numerous investment since launch, including undisclosed funding from the Oil & Gas Technology Centre in Aberdeen, private equity funding from Edinburgh-based investment syndicate Par Equity as well as the Scottish Investment Bank.

Speaking to Daily Business Group, Founder Ross said “It’s been excruciatingly difficult to get to this point, but it’s great now to be working with some of the biggest names in the energy sector to develop Kibosh products for a range of industrial settings.

“I knew pretty early in the process that if we could make the clamps effective for domestic use, we had a really good chance of applying the same basic solution in large-scale engineering and manufacturing environments.”

Due to The Kibush’s simplicity, ease-of-use and robustness, Mr Dickinson has estimated the market potential in the retail sector alone has the potential of being £200m.

Not bad for a plumber who left school at the age of 16 and was diagnosed with dyslexia at an early age!
