Carpenter Runs Into Burning House To Save Disabled Man

Posted: Tuesday, April 13th, 2021

A carpenter is being hailed a hero after he ran into a burning house on multiple occasions and saved the life of an elderly disabled man who couldn’t walk, before calmly getting into his van and getting on with his day of work as planned.

Hayssam ‘Sam’ Sabsabi, 44, from Sydney, Australia, had only just left his home in the morning when he noticed smoke bellowing out a house further down the street.

The tradesman arrived on the scene to find flames and heavy smoke had engulfed a disability share home, with a bystander saying there were people trapped inside.

This sprung the carpenter into action, with Mr Sabsabi running to his work van to get tools that allowed him to unscrew the fly screen on the front door and get to the aid of those trapped within.

Once inside, the carpenter found an elderly disabled man who was still asleep despite the heavy smoke and heat.

The 44-year-old acted quickly, picking up the man and carrying him safely outside but to his surprise, emergency services had still not arrived.

Knowing there was still another person trapped inside, he left the disabled resident in the care of members of the public who had gathered out the front of the property, before running back inside the house to get to the aid of another resident.

Unfortunately at this point the fire and smoke had become too overbearing and extremely dangerous, with the tradesman unable to get to the aid of the second man.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Mr Sabsabi said “I went into the hallway and I could hear a voice from the back of the house calling, "I'm here, I'm here.”

“But I could not, I could not do it (get to him) - it was too dark, too hot and smelled very, very bad.”

“I tried twice to go in there but I could not.”

Mr Sabsabi said he was inside the house for 10 to 15 minutes.

Emergency services did arrive on the scene shortly after but they were unable to save the second man.

After speaking with police, the humble tradesman calmly left the scene and continued onto work as if he hadn’t just run into a burning building and saved someones life.
